What’s in the box?

If it’s your first order, the box will include the shears and clipper blades you selected when you signed up. There will also be a receipt showing the blades with their serial number. Lastly, we provide a welcome brochure with additional questions and contact info.

For exchange boxes, there will also be a return mail label as well as a piece of packing tape for resealing the box. All you have to do is place your clippers and/or shears in the foam holder, seal up the box using the provided tape, and apply the return label over the original shipping label.

I just received my first batch of blades. Are the blades mine to keep now?

No. You are leasing our blades so that you don’t have to buy your own. By leasing them, you don’t have to pay to replace parts as they wear or replace the cutter or comb after they’ve been sharpened too many times. If you choose to no longer use the exchange service, the blades will need to be returned.

What brand of blades will I receive?

We offer a variety of clipper blades including Andis, Oster, Wahl competition, as well as our own self labeled blades. We opted to not buy cheap knock off blades that don’t last as long to make sure that you get the best cutting experience possible.

How can I tell the difference between GBE blades and my own blades?

We laser engrave “Groomers Blade Exchange” on all of our blades. Also, our blades are inventoried, so we have a serial number on every blade. Lastly, while we have the blade at the laser engraver, if the blade size is hard to read, we engrave a larger number to make it easier to identify the blade.

Why is there a serial number on every blade?

We track everything. By having a serial number on an individual blade, we can tell how many times it’s been sharpened, how many times it has been sent to clients, we can tell who sharpened it as well as who tested it prior to sending it out. With this type of data, we can then become aware of issues sooner so that they can be addressed and remedied immediately.

Will I receive new or used blades?

We’re ordering new blades all the time. However, they’re only new once, so the likelihood is that you’ll be receiving a good used blade. Regardless of the blades that you get, we guarantee that they’ve been tested and cut well.

How do you test the blades to make sure they cut well?

We use a combination of rabbit fur, test string, and faux fur with multiple brands of clippers to make sure the blades are razor sharp and ready for use.

What if I get a blade and it doesn’t cut right?

Let us know immediately! We will get another blade out to you at no charge. Hold onto the problematic blade until your next exchange and then return it with the rest of your blades at your regular exchange interval.

If there’s problems with more than one blade, there’s a good chance it’s your clipper. Blade drives wear out as do hinge assemblies. Both are meant to be replaced regularly. One of the reasons we test all of our blades with multiple types of clippers is so that we can make sure you’re getting sharp blades that are ready to go. But if you’re having trouble, know that we’re here to work with you. Our goal is to keep you cutting, so if you are having trouble, let us know. We genuinely want to help.

What if I break a blade?

We understand accidents happen. We allow for up to 1 damaged blade per year. After that, you’ll have to pay retail price to replace the blade. Prices vary per blade size.

What if I lose a blade?

Unfortunately, if you lose a blade, you’ll have to pay to replace it. The cost varies per size of the blade.

Can I buy the blades after the service contract is up?

Yes! If you choose to no longer use our exchange service but want to keep the blades that you have been sent, you are able to purchase them rather than send them back. Just contact us for more details.

Do you offer any discounts for students going to school for grooming?

Absolutely! Please fill out the simple form on the contact page and we’ll let you know the details.

What’s the difference between the blade exchange and a mail-in sharpening service?

The biggest difference is that you’re never without blades! Typical mail in services will have your blades tied up for 2 weeks. Also, most services you have to pay shipping at least one way. Not with the Groomer’s Blade Exchange! We pay shipping both ways and we send you blades before you ship the dull ones out so that you’re never without sharp blades.

We have a local sharpener that does a good job. Why would we switch to the exchange service?

If you’ve got a good relationship with a local sharpener who is taking care of your sharpening needs, then don’t switch! You’re blessed! But if your local sharpener does a less than stellar job or it’s inconvenient for you to get with them, then that’s where our service comes in. Blades come right to your door. Return shipping is easy too – you reuse the same box and we include a return shipping label as well as provide tape for resealing the box.
